Advance Info: Look for clues on the approach to help to identify the junction and plan ahead: Open: You have a good, early view into the junction on both sides, an early decision can be made whether to go or not (You must ALWAYS stop at a stop sign) Closed: Your view is obstructed and you can't see into the junction clearly, be prepared to slow down or stop if necessary to find a safe gap Hazard: Junctions are hazards, The MSPSL routine should be applied M irrors: Check speed / position of following vehicles - Interior and left mirrors S ignal: Tell other road users you intentions clearly and in good time P osition: Maintain a normal driving position (1m from the kerb) this confirms your intentions to turn and not park S peed: Reduce your speed on the approach - (Give way / Stop) - (Open / Closed ) ? L ook: Effective observation in all directions at the earliest point you can see clearly Steering: Not tot early (you may clip the kerb) or too late (you may end up on the wrong side) After Turn: Check your mirrors and speed up if it's safe |
